July just flew by! It was my birthday month and I went on a road trip.  Here’s what I used up in July:

And here’s what I thought of each – hopefully this will help you if you want to try any of these.

Avène Eluage cream – $55 for 30ml (drugstores)
This is one of my HG skincare items. I talk about this in my anti-aging skincare products post.  This particular tube is actually expired because Dec 2014 but I continued to use it because eh, it’s in a vacuum sealed pump, the risk of it losing full potency instantaneously is low.  I’ve started using the Avene YsthéAL Emulsion ($51 for 30ml) as its replacement – it’s less emollient and optimal for summertime.  This bottle lasted me much more than 18 months because I only use it in a targeted area (for my laugh lines).

Lise Watier HydraSmart Gel-Crème Hydration 3D – $18 for 30ml (Shoppers drug Mart and online)
This typically comes in a 50ml jar but I saw the 30ml travel size ones online and discovered that they were actually less expensive per ml compared to the full size version (it’s $42 for the 50ml jar, making it $0.84/ml – the travel sized tube cost $0.60/ml).  And, the travel size comes in a much more sanitary tube packaging, to boot.  I quite liked this gel-cream – it’s a lighter weight consistency so it absorbs rapidly and I choose wearing this for summertime. However, I discovered that the product would pill (or ball up) under some foundations.  And over time, the strong fragrance of this – it smells like hair spray – started to bother me.  I have another unopened one of this which I hope to finish up this summer.

Alpha Hydrox 12% AHA Souffle – $10 for 45ml (online)
I purchased this from Winners ages ago and have been using this jar on and off. The scent-free cream has a gooey kind of texture that’s lightweight but a bit sticky – with 12% AHA it is certainly not for nightly use for me, it tingles quite a bit but leaves my skin silky smooth the next morning.  I choose this for summertime so I chose to start using it again – however, this particular jar has likely lost its potency because it has completely lost the tingling sensation.  I have another jar in my stash – it was purchased much later than this one so I hope it’s fresh.  I discovered that they’ve because changed the packaging to a tube  which is an improvement!

Caudalie Lip Conditioner – $12 for 4.5g (Sephora)
This came as part of a kit and I’d been curious to try it for a while now – unfortunately, I don’t love it. It has a thin consistency that doesn’t really hydrate my lips very well and it disappears rapidly so I have to keep reapplying. It doesn’t have any scent or flavour which is good for those who are sensitive.  The tube lasted me about 6 months.

Prestige My most significant Lashes mascara – $10 for 13.6ml (drugstores)
I did a review of this.  It’s a terrific volumizing mascara but it gave me raccoon eyes.  When I wear this, I have to layer a top coat to make it transfer-proof. It’s a bit too much work for the results, but if you don’t have tissues with mascaras transferring and want full lush lashes, give this a try.

Indeed Labs Peptalash – $25 for 5ml (Shoppers drug Mart)
I opened this in September last year and I’ve been using it on and off (when I remember) at night. like Cargo LashActivator Night, I do feel that it’s helped my lashes not fall out as much – thus, making my overall lashes look fuller. This product is much simpler to use compared to the Cargo – I just apply a thin line along my lash line like a liquid liner. I have another unopened one of this but I’m not sure if I will repurchase – I may try just plain old castor oil to see how I get on with that.

GOSH professional curl it Baby! Defining cream  – $10 for 150ml (Shoppers drug Mart)
I got this on clearance for 50% off or else I wouldn’t have paid this much for a hair product.  It was good – I use this on my damp hair to help keep my waves from separating and getting frizzy.  It’s not effective on its own but when combined with a curling spray, it does offer some definition and didn’t weigh my hair down. It smells like papayas.

Clean & clear Deep cleaning Astringent – $8.50 for 235ml (drugstores)
Surprised to see this item on here? Well, I don’t use this on my face! It’s way too severe for that. I use this solely for my underarms as the prepping and cleansing step when I sugar them (sugaring is an alternative to waxing). The high alcohol content in this astringent makes it ideal for getting rid of any oils, and the 2% salicylic acid helps avoid ingrowns.

Nuxe Toning lotion with 3 Roses (renamed to Toning lotion with rose Petals) – $28 for 200ml (drugstores)
Nepředneska jsem tento myšlení zakoupil, že to byla nuce micelární voda, kterou jsem opravdu chtěl vyzkoušet. Nakonec jsem si koupil nuxelovou micelární vodu a ukázalo se, že jsem se moc nestaral o jeden z tohoto toneru. Nuxe Face Produkty a já se nezdá, že se dostat, i když opravdu chci mít své produkty! Jediná věc, kterou jsem miloval z nuxe, je huile prodigieuse (víceúčelový suchý olej), který používám pro mé vlasy a pokožku hlavy. Tento toner je jen průměrný.

Shiseido obličejová bavlna – $ 11 za 165 počtu (obchodní domy, drogerie, online)
To je konvenční, kterým jsou všechny ostatní obličejové bavlny porovnány (podle mého názoru). Udělal jsem post na tom, porovnávám jiné “Dupes” z drogerie (spoiler: nesrovnávají).

By now you’ve probably heard about the Essie Gel•Setter™ top coat – it’s fairly new on the market and promises “cushy, rock-hard shine of a gel, in a foolproof formula”. I was living under a rock and had not heard about this but stumbled upon a display while I was doing some birthday hauling. I picked it up primarily because at the time I had just recently got gel polish applied and loved the shine of the gel polish. Also, the top coat was on sale.

After I purchased it, I read a rave review by elegant and polished so I was quite stoked to try it.  I finally busted this open last month and evaluated it with another new polish (and fivezero enabled item) that I purchased during my birthday haul: Essie Perennial Chic.

It’s in a conventional square Essie bottle with a silver foil cap – the brush is exactly the same as Essie polishes.  The consistency is not too thick, not too runny.

Ask anybody who knows me, and they’ll tell you I promise by Poshe fast dry top coat – it’s quick drying, very shiny, long wearing, and doesn’t get all gunky like Seche Vite.  I love it so much that I own a salon-sized bottle that I decant from, and I push it onto all my friends. So Essie Gel•Setter has some stiff competition. best off the bat, I can see that it is very shiny upon initial application.

Here it is freshly applied, with 1 coat of Orly Bonder, 2 coats of Essie Perennial Chic, and 1 coat of Essie Gel•Setter.  I wouldn’t really say it’s “cushy” like gel polish is, but I did find that it had a slightly slick gel feel over the surface.  I did notice that it took about double the time to fully dry (about 30 minutes) compared to Poshe. (Pro tip: to check if your polish is dry, gently tap your 2 pinky nails together, nail to nail – if they have a tackiness, your nails aren’t dried yet).

Here’s what my manicure looked like after 7 full days:

Not bad really, a bit of visible suggestion wear, but no apparent chips or peeling nails.  The shine has dulled a bit but overall, the performance is exceptional to other top coats I’ve tried, but still inferior to Poshe.  One good thing about the Essie it is readily available, whereas Poshe is only available at Sally charm supply or online.

• not as quick drying as my typical top coat (Poshe)
• shine doesn’t last as long as a gel

Stash hodnota: 8/10

I have yet to try this on top of non-Essie polishes, but according to this review by classic Maggie, the performance is better when paired with Essie polishes. I’ll have to test it.

I highly recommend this, but for me, Poshe top coat is still the tops!

Stejně jako většina z vás mám skrýš mini mascaras přes GWP a sady krásy. V letošním roce jsem se snažil projít mnou, abych zjistil, zda existují nějaké skryté drahokamy mezi hodně.

Zkoušel jsem následující 4 Mini Mascaras na jeden týden každý týden:
Buxom vyřezával Lash – $ 24 (Sephora)
Clinique High Impact – $ 19 (Sephora, obchodní domy, butiky krásy)
Přínos jsou skutečné! – $ 29 (Sephora, butiques)
Shiseido Perfect Defining objem – $ 30 (Sephora, obchodní domy, butiky krásy, vyberte Rexalls)

Hodnota vzorků je ve skutečnosti docela dobře, když se podíváte na plnou velikost ceny a kolik ml dostanete do vzorků:

Buxom vyřezával Lash.
První, tato řasenka byla skutečným zklamáním. Pro to, jak “inovativní” štětec ve tvaru písmene S je nic, co by mělo poskytnout jakoukoliv délku nebo objem, a to se roztrhalo pod očima opravdu špatně (oči panda jsou jen roztomilé … PANDAS). Musel jsem použít své Clarins Double Fix ‘Topcoat po prvním dni, aby se přes týden. Celý týden jsem měl patetické řasy.

Clinique vysoký náraz
I když je to prodáváno pro objem, vlastně jsem zjistil, že je lepší pro prodloužení. Je to pěkná řasenka, ale tam, kde to selže, je to, že nemůže držet curl (všiml jsem si to, že to platí pro většinu společností Mascaras na mě) a měl tendenci rozlévat pod očima.

Přínos jsou skutečné!
Opravdu jsem se těšil na to, že to zkusím, protože to má takové pozitivní recenze online. Je to docela ovlivněná při počáteční aplikaci, která poskytuje neuvěřitelnou délku a dobrý objem. Nicméně, to mělo tendenci vypadat shluky a dát vzhled Spiderery řvičky, a to na mě také trochu rozmazalo. A jen kdo má výhodu, že jsou, nabíjení 29 dolarů za tuto řasenku?

Tato řasenka má rozlišení za to, že je to zábava řasenka, kterou jsem kdy použil! To voní jako spálené průmyslové striptérky. Vím, že vždycky harfa na vápencích produktů, ale mám citlivý nos a urážející pachy opravdu odloží produkty, a to není výjimka. Tato řasenka zkontroluje všechny krabice pro mě, pokud jde o dodávání na curl, ne rozmazání, délky a objemu (malé bitové spidery řasy, pokud jsem si důkladně otřete hůlku). A nosí jako železo. Ale prostě jsem se nemohl dostat do pachu. Z tohoto důvodu bych tento řasenku nekoupil v plné velikosti.

L’Oreal Nature’s therapy Scalp relief Leave-In treatment – $11.19 for 118ml (Sally beauty Supply)
I apply this around my hairline after I’ve towel dried my hair and it helps with the tightness and itchiness in the dead of winter. It doesn’t leave a residue and absorbs in quickly. I also love the scent – fresh green apples. The only place I’ve ever seen this is at Sally beauty supply and I don’t see this listed on their site now so I’m worried they’re not carrying it anymore! So typical. I’ll have to go to the store to check.

Arrojo curl Definer – $22 for 150ml (salons & salon supplies)
I got a few tubes of this on clearance for $4.99 and this is my final tube. It’s very similar to Curl Keeper which is my staple, but the Arrojo provides less hold and frizz control.  So long, Arrojo.

L’Oreal studio Line Silk & Gloss curling Spritz – $3 for 200ml (Dollarama)
This was in my Feb 2015 trash stash and just over a year later, I’ve used up another bottle. I’ve still got another 3 bottles in my stash.  Same comments apply as before – it provides great wave definition and doesn’t make my hair too crunchy.  I suspect this is now truly discontinued since it’s no longer listed on the L’Oreal site.

Kiehls Amino Acid Shampoo – $27 for 250ml (Kiehl’s stores and online)
I’ve mentioned this before but I LOVE the smell of this shampoo. It smells like a mixture of coconut and baby powder.  I’m still on a quest to find a perfume that smells like this! I bought a 1 litre pump bottle for 20% off and have been working at finishing it – I pour into this bottle since it’s easier to use. There’s probably about 250ml left. It’s expensive but I would repurchase.

The Body shop Banana Conditioner – $10 for 250ml (The Body shop stores and online)
I bought this purely due to the nostalgia factor. I used to love this scent… but I guess my sense of smell matured because I don’t much care for it now. The banana smell is a little sickly sweet. and I didn’t find the conditioner to do much at all. At least it didn’t weigh down my hair but it was a useless step.  I found this bottle shoved in the back of my cupboard and attempted to use it again but wasn’t feeling it – this bottle has to be at least 2 years old, just look at how ratty the label is! The packaging is now different.

Mandom barrier repair Concentrate Serum – $16 for 60g (Sasa.com)
I opened this up around the same time as the L’Occitane toner so I guess it makes sense it’s finished now too. I also did a review of this and I absolutely loved this serum. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued!  I’ve reverted back to my previous HG – and still readily available – serum, by NeoStrata.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Nope, can’t (story of my life!)

L’Occitane Shea Butter gentle Toner – $25 for 200ml (L’Occitane stores and online, select shoppers drug Mart beauty boutique location)
I did a review of this when I first started using this back in October last year. so that means this bottle lasted me nearly 6 months!  I attribute that to the spray nozzle – I always spray 5 to 6 spritzes into the cotton pad which controls how much product I use. I should pour all of my toners into a spray bottle.  As a toner, this was just fine – it’s alcohol-free but other than that, it’s unremarkable and pricey for what it is.

Saje Jasmine Exotic mist – $12.95 for 100ml (Saje stores and online)
I just finished this right on March 31st! This is a decent facial mist – I like it mainly for the scent.  There’s absolutely nothing special about this mist, it contains water and jasmine essential oil, and that’s it.  But I’ll likely repurchase this in the future. I’ve got quite a few facial mists in the hopper.

Lifecella Essence Sheet Mask Hyaluronic Acid – $14 for 5 masks (Sasa.com)
I’ve not included any sheet masks in my empties before because I normally throw away the packaging right away but since this box housed 5 individually wrapped masks, I can show the outer box (From now on, I’ll try to note down sheet masks I use each month and mention them in my empties). These were good for the price. The cotton used in these masks are quite thick so they felt substantial. There was a sufficient amount of serum in the package but not in excess. The face shape was just ever so slightly too short on my face but the eye / nose / mouth cut-out placements were spot-on and I liked that there were eye flaps. The masks were just folded into the pouches withoutany plastic separating sheets. They were hydrating without feeling slimy. I didn’t detect any strong scent in these masks. I’m fickle when it comes to sheet masks, so I might repurchase these in the future, but I’m not running out to replace them right away. I just noticed this box has an expiry date of April 2016 – I used these up just in time!

Clean & clear invisible blemish treatment – $10 for 22ml (drugstores)
I didn’t completely finish this up but it’s a really old tube (at least 3 years old) and I’ve found another treatment that I prefer, which contains benzoyl peroxide (will be shown in next month’s post). This was decent while I was using it – it leaves a slightly sticky film on the skin but mostly invisible. I’m not entirely sure if it was effective against blemishes though.

Vichy Normaderm HyaluSpot – $21 for 15ml (drugstores)
Another blemish product. this one I liked a bit better but it still wasn’t noticeably effective. I did like that it was a hydrating formula so it didn’t dry out the skin around my blemishes. It also didn’t leave any sticky film or residue on the skin. this one I did finish – not sure if I would repurchase. I may try out the BHA stuff from NeoStrata next.

Koya Butter Up! Body cream – I think this cost me $7 for 2oz
I purchased this from RINSE when I went for my manicure prize. This smells like a tropical dream (cocoa, shea, mango). The pot is tiny so I wouldn’t imagine it would last very long for the body – I only used it for my hands as a nighttime treatment. It does leave the skin quite greasy and takes a while to soak in, but once it’s absorbed, my skin feels so soft.

LUSH Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter – $17.95 for 45g (LUSH stores and online)
I honestly don’t remember buying this! I was clearing out the little basket I have on my nightstand and found this buried at the bottom.

The expiry of this was Dec 10, 2013 and I’ve had this since at least 2012. I recall this smelling outstanding (it has since turned – smells like sour wax now) and it being quite greasy so I relegated it to nighttime use only. obviously I forgot about it. I’ll be saving this tub toward a free mask though!

The Body shop White Musk Libertine Body Butter – $21 for 200ml (The Body shop stores and online)
I got this in 2014 I think… it was during a clearance sale and I paid less than half price for this. I love this scent – it prompted me to order the perfume and corresponding body mist recently!  As a body butter, this is good but not the most moisturizing one I’ve used – the scent does linger on the body which I like.  It is a limited edition scent but if they re-release this scent, I’ll repurchase.

Visine Multi-Symptom Eye Drops – $10 for 15ml (drugstores)
I know this is an odd thing to include in a beauty empties but at this time of the year, eye drops is absolutely essential for me! Allergies cause my eyes to be itchy, dry, red, stinging and generally irritated. If I don’t use eye drops, I can’t even apply my eye makeup in the mornings. This particular bottle has expired so I’ve bought a new bottle. Also, you can use eye drops instead of water to mix with pigment or powder eye shadows to foil them. Since most eye drops contain glycerin, they help eye shadows to adhere onto the lids.

Travel / sample sizes

Consonant natural Foaming face Wash
This wasn’t a free gwp but a travel size I purchased for $12 to try out. unfortunately I wasn’t a fan of this – unlike traditional foaming face washes, this doesn’t lather up on the face, rather it dispenses as foam out of the pump. It then feels like I’m applying latte foam to my face where it becomes a liquidy slime. It does clean well, I suppose, but I didn’t like the scent (tea tree?) or the overall experience. would not buy the full size.

Consonant DHE Mask
I did receive this free as a sample and I really like it! It’s a heavy duty thick clay-based mask that really helps to calm the skin – it was helpful when my face erupted from IPL. This little pot lasted me for 4 uses – I’ll be buying the full size of this.

Clarins Extra-Firming tightening lift Botanical Serum
Miluju tohle věci! I’m probably not the target market for this serum but it does make my skin feel tight and smooth. At $84 for 30ml, I will not be purchasing the full size.

I think my excitement was mostly due to the fact that these were the first nail polishes I gotten in person this year (all my nail polish purchases so far have been online orders).  The beauty parlor owner told me the reason they were selling these OPIs off so cheaply was due to having too much inventory and their customers now preferred gel polish instead. I might possibly – probably – go back to get some more, they had at least 100 colours available!

A couple of weeks back I requested suggestions on which MAC lipstick to trade in for, as well as a number of you chimed in on your recommendations.

I picked… celebration Line!

• pro Performance Sponge (I’ve been testing a whole lot of charm Blender type of makeup sponges so I wished to include MAC’s in the mix)

I likewise requested 3 foundation samples to test out – I’ve not had fantastic success with MAC foundations in the past (the only MAC foundation I own is Face & Body) and these are all new to me:
• BB cream in medium (I hope this doesn’t break me out like the compact did!)
• Matchmaster in 1.5
• Mineral wetness in NC20
(see what I imply about MAC colour numbering being around the place?)

While the SA was prepping my foundation samples, I milled around the Pro Longwear eye shadow display. The SA discussed to me that the pro Longwear variety is being discontinued. state WHAT? Then, she stated that they’re likewise discontinuing some blushes too. Co zase?

So to explain: pro Longwear eye shadows were at first introduced in 2011 with the Styledriven collection, as well as then new colours added in 2012 with office hours collection. The formula is hit as well as miss (some lacked pigmentation) – however I did discover them to be extremely long using (check out the wear test Temptalia did). The other fantastic thing about these eye shadows is exactly how much product you get – for a few dollars more ($17 vs $12), the pan is much more than double the size of a routine pan (3.4g for pro Longwear vs 1.5g for pravidelný). MAC’s official colour description is “dark camel”.  This shade stimulated so  numerous tutorials a few years back – inspect out this gorgeous look that Sam of Pixiwoo produced featuring this eye shadow – I’ve tried a toned down version of this look before as well as it’s gorgeous!

The shade is distinct as well as widely lovely – people even utilize it to contour their cheeks. I’ve seen this eye shadow being offered on eBay for $50 (“HTH! rare!!!”) as well as I bet now that it’s being discontinued, it’s going to be even much more sought after.

AND, to add much more madness to what the SA was stating to me, she informs me that Cubic, Buff as well as Tenderling blushes were being discontinued as well!  Um, Cubic was my 2nd ever MAC blush, that is NUTS!  All of these colours are truly prominent – I understand great deals of fair-skinned women will be bummed that Tenderling is going.  I do own all 3 of those shades – I truly like them all with Buff being my favourite.  But why I’m telling you all this is because I did get a few of the products being discontinued, not for ME, however for a future GIVEAWAY! Don’t get as well thrilled yet. I won’t be doing the giveaway up until I’m done my No-Buy – hey, if I can wait, you can wait too.  (Of program you have to be complying with me to discover out when the giveaway will be!)

It may not seem like it lately, but I’m not really an eye shadow palette kind of girl. and certainly, I’ve never gravitated toward drugstore eye shadow palettes. but what got me intrigued with the CoverGirl TruNaked palette were the general rave reviews online, and also seeing fantastic live swatches from Allura Beauty.  There are 3 versions available and I ended up with the Roses palette:

This palette costs $14.99 frequently but I redeemed optimum points for mine.

There are 8 colours in the palette, with a combined weight of 6.5g (roughly 0.81g each) – it measures 11.5cm x 7cm x 1cm.  As far as the palette layout, it’s not my favourite configuration with the skinny strips, but these are wide enough that a MAC 239 brush can easily fit in each panel.  And for a drugstore palette, the case isn’t terrible, but the plastic feels slightly on the flimsy side. The cover reminds me of the quality of a CD case cover – just a little bit of pressure would probably crack it.

The fact that CoverGirl even went a step further and bothered to give names to each of the shades is aces in my books! You all know what happens when a palette leaves the shades unnamed! (I will name them for you!)

Zleva do prava:
• almond (pink tinged ivory – matte)
• champagne (light pink – shimmer)
• baby (light pinky mauve – matte)
• rose gold (warm pink – shimmer)
• copper rose (dusty mauve – matte)
• dusk (rosy taupe – frost)
• mauvergine (plummy brown – frost)
• mousse (deep plum – satin)

And did you catch that? This palette is made in Canada! You know what other brands produce their products in Canada? MAC, Nars, Bobbi brown – to name a few. I was quite floored to see that this palette is made in Canada, and not in China like many drugstore brands are nowadays. So then it’s no surprise that I found the formula to be quite impressive:

(I suspect that Copper rose and Dusk are mislabeled. I think Dusk should be the matte mauve and Copper rose is the shimmery taupe – but this is the order as per the label on the back of the palette.)

The stand out shades for me are Baby, rose Gold, Dusk, and Mauvergine. Actually, I love all the colours in this palette but these 4 are just a little more special. Honestly, I wouldn’t change a single shade in this palette! It’s a wonderful stand alone palette – I’ve got my highlight, crease and transition shades all contained in this palette.  If I was going to be super picky, I might have suggested a matte crease shade, but Mousse is not that shimmery, so I’ll let it pass.

My favourite way to wear this palette is Mauvergine in the crease with rose Gold on the lid, baby as the transition / blending colour and Almond for the brow bone.  The quality of both the mattes and frosts are outstanding – pigmented and blendable – I find the shimmers to be slightly loose and more prone to fall out.  The wear time of these shadows are good: about 8 hours before I see any fading and slight creasing.

It does contain a lame sponge tipped applicator, but at this price, I wasn’t expecting anything better. At least CoverGirl bothered to 1) provide anything at all 2) have dual ended design containing a flat paddle shape on one end with a pointed tip on the other.

The Roses palette was my first pick of the 3 colour options offered since it contained colours I didn’t own a lot of in my collection. but based on the fantastic quality and value, I’m likely going to pick up the other 2 colours (Goldens and Nudes). have you tried the CoverGirl TruNaked palettes?

Ps. For those in the UK and have no access to CoverGirl, the Max factor Masterpiece nude Palettes are exactly the same!
